Dear Everyone
I just wanted to say hello again after a quite a few months away. Not been good but its a long story. My topic today is........My email was hacked into sometime ago and somehow alot of things were sent from it...i.e. some relegious stuff???!!!??? Anyway someone on here kept emailing me. posing as a friend but quite obviously after more than friendship. I didnt reply to his messages as it was obviuos what he was trying to do...but after that my email was hacked. I'm not accusing him for that at all but I was really upset to receive a horrible email from him cause he had recieved one of these bogus emails from me. Those of you that knew me when I was last on here will definately be able to guess who this man was as he was obviously making a play for me. Apparently he has been in trouble with NRAS before , although I dont know what for.
Any way steam over and I hope to speak to some of the lovely people on here again
Linda

Oh Linda - I'm so very sorry to hear this. Something you definitely don't need on top of RA.

Take care

Hi Linda

Sorry to hear that you too have experienced problems but it sounds as though you and Amanda both know who the culprit is. I don't know who emailed me and have gone to considerable lengths to try to find out.

In fairness to all forum users I feel you should report this to NRAS. If incidents are not reported we will never stop this from happening and everyone will have doubts about the safety and integrity of the forum. It will be spoiled for all.

You're right, of course you shouldn't put up with it and for this reason I urge you to contact Sally at NRAS asap, please. This is starting to frighten people, new members will not want to post, and regular members are becoming increasingly concerned about security so if you do know who it is you should pass this information on; keeping it to yourself will help no-one.

Please follow up! Take care,

Lyn x

Lyn has a point about new members possibly being put off. It would be best if we all reported anything untoward to NRAS, in the hope that they can take some action.

Hi Linda,

I'd offer you my e/mail address but am too frightened after Lyn's horrible experience and am particularly vulnerable right now!

If you know mine, please e/mail me, but needless to say I am shocked still!

Very glad you are here again though.....

Love,

Amanda

I too received malicious e-mails a few months ago. There were only two people on the site that I gave my e-mail address to. So that narrows it down. I use Mailwasher so I blacklisted the e-mail source. It just wasn't worth the hassle of posting on here. So now I just read postings.

Hi John

The email I received was extremely unpleasant and carried with it a virus (removing it has damaged my hard drive which now has to be replaced). Please, if you know who emailed you pass it on to NRAS who can take appropriate action. This has to stop but it unfortunately seems to be getting worse!

Members (and NRAS too!) benefit from reading all our contributions and it would be sad to think that you did not feel comfortable posting because of the odd person who spoils it for all.

Hope you are doing well John,

Lyn x

Hi John

Please pass on all the info you have to NRAS so this can be stopped.

Hi Lyn

Mine also contained a virus but luckilly my anti-virus software detected it. I have the software to track down the source of e-mails back to his ISP. Unfortunately I do not have either the time or patience to do it. Who ever this person is does have a reasonable if rudimentary knowledge of computers and software. The usual thing I do with malicious e-mails is to bounce the e-mail (complete with virus) back to the sender. This I did.

The NRAS are aware of these e-mails but in reality are powerless to stop e-mails being sent direct to the receivers home e-mail. They did their best to lessen the problems by removing the personal message facility.

Who ever is sending these messages really do need help. They are very sad attention seekers.
